Sunny skies and highs in the upper 30s are in the forecast for Wichita today, forecasters say.

Snow and sleet are possible after midnight, with a low near 30 and southerly winds gusting at more than 25 miles an hour. Chances for rain and freezing rain will persist through Friday morning, forecasters say.

Temperatures will recover to the upper 40s Friday afternoon, with southerly winds in the teens early and easing to single digits late. Gusts could again reach 25 miles an hour.

Lows Friday night will dip to about 20 under mostly clear skies, forecasters say, and Saturday will be cold as another storm system arrives.

Sleet and freezing rain will be the opening salvo of the storm, forecasters say, before it turns into snow on Sunday. Check later forecasts for accumulation projections.
