Police say a 24-year-old man is in the hospital after he was stabbed in southeast Wichita early Monday morning.

The man told police he was asleep when the mother of his child woke him shortly before 3 a.m. after she found evidence he was involved with another woman, Lt. Doug Nolte said. The 23-year-old woman was holding a knife and chased him out of her house in the 5100 block of East Zimmerly.

He told police she stabbed him in the back, Nolte said. The man was found shortly after 7 a.m. at Oliver and Gilbert. He was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment of the wound.

Officers learned he was in violation of a protection from abuse order for being at the woman’s house, Nolte said, so he was booked into jail upon his release from the hospital. The 23-year-old woman was also arrested, he said on an outstanding warrant and suspicion of aggravated battery.
