A boy playing on an escalator escaped serious injury after getting his head pinned against a wall Monday afternoon, police say.

The incident occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. at Dillard’s inside Towne East Square, Lt. Doug Nolte said. The 4-year-old boy ignored numerous commands by his mother to stop playing on the up escalator inside the store.

His head became pinned against a wall, and the force generated by the escalator knocked a hole in the wall where the boy’s head was caught, Nolte said. The child suffered a one-inch cut above his right eye.

He was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis for evaluation and treatment, then released.
