Those of you who’d like to surround your Sunday afternoon Shocker game with a whole lot of Shocker video gaming should head out to Side Pockets for the first round of the Shocker Invitational.
The fictional fun starts at 11 a.m., when the first of eight first-round games matching former Shockers will be played on an XBox 360 gaming system and shown on one of the three big screens inside the restaurant. The first matchup: Team 13 (Ozell Jones, Cheese Johnson, P.J. Couisnard, Randy Burns, Joe Ragland) vs. Team 15 (Gene Wiley, Cleanthony Early, Darrin Williams, Sean Ogirri, Preston Carrington).
Shocker Invitational games will continue until 4 p.m., when the imaginary games halt so fans can watch the current real-life Shockers play at Evansville.
Eagle columnist Bob Lutz will provide updates all day long on Twitter (@boblutz).
The quarterfinals will be played at Side Pockets on March 2 starting at 2 p.m. The champion will be crowned on Selection Sunday, March 16, when two semifinal games will be contested starting at 2, before the NCAA announces its bracket for the 2014 tournament. The championship game of the Shocker Invitational will be played after the field is announced at about 6 p.m.
