The Wichita State women’s basketball team rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Drake 70-61 on Friday in Des Moines, Iowa, for the Shockers’ 20th straight victory.
The win also marked a milestone for sixth-year WSU coach Jody Adams, who tied Linda Hargrove for the school record for career victories with 113.
Alex Harden led the Shockers with 22 points, seven rebounds and eight assists as WSU trailed 26-25 at halftime — although Harden was on fire at that point, scoring the final 10 points of the first half.
WSU (21-2, 12-0 MVC) jumped on Drake (11-12, 5-7) quickly in the second half, taking the lead back on back-to-back jumpers by Harden and Kelsey Jacobs. Jamillah Bonner’s layup sparked a 9-0 run by WSU that ended with the Shockers leading 51-42 with 10:06 remaining on a three-pointer by freshman Alie Decker.
Michelle Price added 13 points for the Shockers and was perfect shooting the ball — 5 of 5 from the field and 3 of 3 from the free-throw line. Decker added 13 points, including four three-pointers.
WSU returns to action on Sunday at Northern Iowa, with tipoff set for 2 p.m.
