Police are investigating an aggravated assault that occurred early Friday. The victim said a man and several companions attacked him because he had inquired about how the man was doing.

The assault occurred at about 4:20 a.m. in the 3800 block of East 16th Street, Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte said.

The victim told police there were four attackers. He said he had inquired earlier about the welfare of the one man he knew in the group, and that man took exception to that and assaulted him.

The victim, 25, was punched in the face and suffered minor injuries. During the attack, the victim told police, a woman in the group got into a Ford Explorer and tried to back it into him, Nolte said.

A separate witness who saw the assault confirmed details to police, Nolte said.
