Wichita police are investigating a homicide involving an employee in his mid-20s whose body was found Monday morning by another staff member at Steckline Communications, near Kellogg and Maize Road.

A staff member found the man’s body in the basement, said Wichita police Sgt. Troy Nedbalek, who spoke to reporters Monday afternoon. The man’s injuries appear to be from blunt-force trauma, including to the man’s head, Nedbalek said.

The death is being treated as a homicide, Capt. Brent Allred said. No one is in custody; police are “still looking into who did this,” Allred said later Monday.

Allred confirmed that the victim was an employee at the office. Police expect to provide the victim’s name at a briefing at 10 a.m Tuesday, Allred said.

There were no signs of forced entry into the offices, Nedbalek said. It appears that the offices have staff coming and going, Nedbalek said.

Police responded to a call at about 8 a.m. on Monday. Police weren’t sure of the time of death.

The offices, in the 1600 block of South Maize Road, house AM radio stations 1410 and 1480 and the Mid America Ag Network, said Greg Steckline, who runs the business. Steckline said the stations continued to operate Monday. He wouldn’t comment further.

Police have been raking through the recent snow outside, looking for possible evidence. The parking lot outside the offices was filled with police cars Monday afternoon. At one point, not far from the offices, a police officer peered over a bridge railing along an entrance ramp leading to Kellogg

Investigators are trying to piece together what happened, Nedbalek said.

Investigators were conducting interviews at their offices at City Hall.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the case call detectives at 316-268-4181 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
