Park City and Sedgwick County law enforcement officials are investigating a shooting on I-135 north of Wichita that killed a Wichita woman late Friday night.

Park City police chief Phil Bostian said a man called 911 at 11:44 p.m. from a pickup truck on the highway to report that a woman who was in the truck with him had suffered a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

Police arrived four minutes later. The woman, Rebecca A. Stauder, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene, Bostian said.

The truck was parked on the shoulder of the southbound lanes at the top of the 53rd Street exit, he said. The man told police they had been returning from a concert at Hartman Arena. They were the only people in the truck.

The man was taken to the Park City police station and interviewed. Bostian wouldn’t release his name or provide any other details about the shooting.

It hasn’t been determined whether the shooting is a homicide or suicide yet, Bostian said.

The Sedgwick County sheriff and district attorney are investigating with Park City police, he said.
