The 22nd Air Refueling Wing will hold a ceremony Friday afternoon celebrating the 20th anniversary of the unit’s arrival at McConnell Air Force Base.

The event will start at 2:30 p.m. at the base. The 22nd, which is the host unit at McConnell, has 3,100 active-duty airmen.

“Wichita and the surrounding communities have been instrumental at McConnell,” said Col. Joel Jackson, commander of the 22nd. “This is without a doubt one of the most military friendly communities I have seen.”

The 22nd operates at the largest tanker base in the world. There are about 60 KC-135 tankers based at McConnell, which will begin receiving the new KC-46A tankers in 2016.
