Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country’s Constitution be thought of as “extremists.”

Five State of the Union topics made Democrats stand and cheer and made Republicans sit on their hands – equal pay for equal work, ending poverty, raising the minimum wage, affordable health care for everyone and ending the war. I don’t understand how anybody can be against those things.

Hillary Clinton claims she is not thinking about running for president in 2016. I think that would depend on what the definition of “is” is.

Surely the companies suing to be exempt from the Affordable Care Act requirement to provide contraceptives also will deny any single men access to erectile dysfunction medication, as this should be reserved for married couples attempting to procreate. No? What am I missing?

Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Make him a Republican and he’ll form a huge seafood conglomerate, outsource the work to cheap labor overseas, hide the profits in offshore accounts, pollute the river, and then move on.

Teach a man to fish, and his boss will know where to look for him.

I wish a real conservative would run against Gov. Sam Brownback.

Can anyone explain our state lawmakers’ unrelenting attacks on any sane or normal activity? Perhaps we need an investigation to see whose payroll they are on.

Will The Wichita Eagle ever have a headline saying “moderate Democrats”?

Put choosing the airport’s name on the ballot.

I’m so glad to see the mental health pod coming into the jail. If you think it can’t happen to you, think again.

Wichita’s largest cable provider needs competition. We’re tired of being price-gouged. How much are you paying for commercials?

Schools: If you really want to see why kids choose the foods they do, look at the way their parents eat.

Let’s get practical and cost-effective and offer school students these choices: Bring your lunch or buy sandwiches, fruit and milk in the cafeteria. Period. That will sustain kids and keep lines moving. Require all to stay at school at lunch rather than get out in the traffic.
