A car theft victim who tried to chase down the thief got punched in the face, but Wichita police say they may have the thief’s cellphone.

A man, 41, left his car running in a driveway in the 1100 block of North St. Paul, said Lt. Doug Nolte. A man got into the car and drove it away, with the car owner’s son, 24, chasing him. The man who took the car stopped near the intersection of Murdock and Custer, and got out, with the younger victim following and then punching the following man in the face, Nolte said.

Police found a cellphone in the recovered car, but no arrests have yet been made, Nolte said.
