Authorities are blaming a fatal traffic crash in Crawford County on the snowy conditions that blanketed Kansas on Tuesday.

Pittsburg resident Judith Harvey, 59, and 67-year-old Helen Prater of Parsons died in the wreck, reportedly caused by slick conditions on U.S. 69 two miles south of Pittsburg.

Prater, a passenger in the 2009 Chevy Aveo, and 65-year-old Gary Prater, also of Parsons, were southbound when their car lost control and swerved into oncoming traffic at 1:55 p.m., striking a Ford Taurus on its passenger side, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Harvey was driving the Taurus.

Gary Prater and a 24-year-old Parsons woman who was in the Aveo were hospitalized in Pittsburg, the highway patrol said.
