A Wichita man was sentenced Monday to more than three years in prison on a federal gun charge.

Johnathan R. Rush, 29, was sentenced to 40 months in federal court in Kansas City, Kan., according to a news release issued by U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom’s office

Rush pleaded guilty to charges that in July he drove to Lawrence, where he was involved in a fight with two men in which one of the men sustained a gunshot wound. A .45 caliber gun that was purchased by Rush two weeks earlier was later recovered in Topeka by law enforcement officials, the release said.

Rush was prohibited by federal law from possession a firearm because of a 2005 felony conviction.
