B-52s fall to Chicago 10-5

PARK CITY — The B-52s were unsuccessful in stopping the undefeated Chicago Mustangs on Saturday night at Hartman Arena.

Chicago’s third-period onslaught was the difference in the 10-5 decision that doubled as a Professional Arena Soccer League game and a quarterfinal in the U.S. Open Cup.

Colin Lawter scored the first goal to give Wichita an early lead. After three goals by Chicago, newcomer Blake Ordell scored two times to tie the game before the end of the first quarter.

Ordell was in his first B-52s game after being released by the Illinois Piasa.

“It feels like I’ve been here all season already,” he said. “Everything flows together when we’re out there.”

Wichita allowed two goals in the second period and trailed by that margin at halftime.

“It’s a very, very tough mountain to climb if you’re going to trade goal for goal,” B-52s coach Larry Inlow said.

Chicago scored five more goals in the third period for a 10-4 lead.

Travis Pittman scored the only goal of the fourth period to bring Wichita within five, but they were unable to recover from the third-period defecit.

Inlow said the B-52s played like a different team in the second half, playing lazily and not taking care of the ball.

“It was very difficult to see the work that we had laid in the first half get pushed back so hard on the scoreboard,” he said.
