Next weekend’s Home Show at Century II will give people interested in remodeling their house – either with a small or big project – or building new the chance to look at products, see them demonstrated, compare prices and ask questions, said Wess Galyon of the Wichita Area Builders Association.

The association sponsors the show, which celebrates its 60th year in 2014. Attendance last year was about 32,000, about the same as 2012, Galyon said. He expects an increase to 33,000 or 34,000 this year.

“The thing about the show is that while it has some of the things people have seen before, it’s a fresh show each year, because products are evolving so quickly,” Galyon said. “Everything has a newness about it every year, even mundane things.”

The show will be Thursday through Feb. 9 in all three halls of Century II. Prices will be the same as last year: $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $3 for children, free for ages 6 and under.

Galyon said that along with an improving economy there is new strength in the new-housing and home-remodeling sectors.

About 280 vendors will attend the show, mainly from the Wichita area, but also from surrounding states.

People can attend seminars to learn about financing, especially what’s new for remodeling; getting ready for the building process; remodeling basics, from what you want to the process to the cost; energy efficiency; and a new seminar on granite, quartz and solid-surface countertops.

The Better Business Bureau will offer a seminar on how to hire a contractor, including how to screen contractors and what an agreement should look like.

Hours of the show will be 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Feb. 8, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 9.

Free child care will be available in Exhibition Hall, provided by Kid Care Connections, from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and all day Feb. 8 and 9.

Free parking is available at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, with free shuttle buses to and from the show.
