Saint Francis Community Services will start Thursday offering a new session of classes for people interested in foster parenting.

The 10-week course will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. each Thursday at the Wichita office, 4155 E. Harry. There is no charge.

The course is designed top help people decide if they want to become a foster home for children in foster care or adoption programs. Foster parents are required to complete the course to be licensed by the state.

Two other start dates have been set: March 15, 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays; May 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays. All courses are at the same East Harry office.

Sedgwick County has a significant need for foster homes. At least 265 Sedgwick County children must stay in homes outside the county because there aren’t enough locally, according to Saint Francis.

To register for the class or get more information, call 316-831-0330, ext. 231 or go to www.st-francis.org.
