Wichita police arrested a 33-year-old woman who was allegedly drunk when she arrived at Anderson Elementary School to pick up her son Monday afternoon.

Authorities were notified after the woman’s husband called 911 to alert them to what she was doing, Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte said. The couple got into an argument shortly before 4 p.m. at their house in the 1600 block of East Berkeley, he said. The husband was upset that she had been drinking and was going to get their son, police said.

When officers arrived at Anderson Elementary, 2945 S. Victoria, they found the woman waiting in the line of cars to pick up her son, Nolte said. She had an open container of alcohol with her in the vehicle.

She tried to kick an officer when she was taken into custody, a police document said. She had not yet picked up her son at the time of her arrest.

She was booked into jail on suspicion of offenses that included driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and possessing an open container of alcohol.
