A Burlington Northern Santa Fe train struck and killed a pedestrian in south Wichita early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Wichita police told media on the scene the victim is a woman and that the incident appears to be a suicide.

The train’s crew called 911 at 3:21 a.m. to report striking a pedestrian at Harry and K-15, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. The woman’s body was found just north of the track on the west side of K-15. She was pronounced dead at 3:33 a.m.

More information on the incident is expected to be released later this morning at a police briefing at City Hall.
