— Atchison authorities say a truck pulled from the Missouri River belongs to an Atchison man who has been missing since late December.

A body was found inside the truck after it was removed from the river Sunday afternoon. Atchison police chief Mike Wilson confirmed Monday afternoon that the body was that of 69-year-old Garry Sandy.

The truck was spotted Sunday afternoon by a walker along the riverfront near downtown Atchison.

Officials had to fight high winds and strong currents while pulling the 2005 Dodge Ram from the river.

KAIR reports (http://bit.ly/1fq7ouG ) Sandy’s family was at the scene and thanked everyone who had worked to find him, and to recover the truck.
