Kelsey Jacobs scored 21 points and Alex Harden had 19 points and 10 rebounds in Wichita State’s 74-58 victory at Illinois State on Saturday afternoon. It was WSU’s program-record 14th straight win and moved the Shockers to 15-2, 6-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Michelle Price added 10 points and 10 rebounds for WSU, which hasn’t lost since a Nov. 15 loss to St. Joseph’s at Koch Arena. Jacobs added seven rebounds and was 9 of 9 from the free-throw line.

The Shockers built a nine-point lead late in the first half on a 7-0 run with a layup from Price, an Alie Decker three-pointer and a Jacobs layup. But Illinois State cut the lead to 27-23 just before halftime.

WSU’s 11-0 run to start the second half blew the game open. Six straight points from Harden came between baskets from Jacobs and Decker for a 38-23 lead with 15:40 to play, and Illinois State never got closer than eight points.

Illinois State (4-12, 3-3) was led by 18 points and seven rebounds from Stekara Hall.

WSU’s biggest so far in conference play will come at Indiana State on Monday night. The Sycamores are also 6-0 in the Valley and, at 11-6 overall, have the Valley’s only other winning overall record.

WSU then returns to Koch Arena for a four-game homestand beginning Friday against Southern Illinois.
