A 22-year-old Fort Riley man died Tuesday when his car slammed into concrete bridge pillars along I-70 in Ellsworth County, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in a crash report.

Calvin J. Michalak was traveling west on the interstate in a 2006 Pontiac G6 when the crash happened at 12:26 p.m., nine miles northwest of Ellsworth. The highway patrol said Michalak entered the median for an unknown reason before hitting the pillars.

He was the sole occupant of the car.
