Someone stole tools worth several thousand dollars from city-owned greenhouses overnight, police said.

The theft was detected at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday from greenhouses in the 1700 block of South Hydraulic, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

Someone cut a hole in the fence surrounding the greenhouses after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, went into multiple greenhouses and took “a large quantity of power tools and hand tools,” Nolte said.

The stolen tools have a cumulative value that exceeds $5,000, he said.

“At this point, we don’t have any evidence or any suspects,” Nolte said. “The loss is obviously large.”

Anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area after 6 p.m. Tuesday is encouraged to call 911 to report what they saw, he said.
