A neighbor played a key role in helping police track down two burglars who investigators now think may be responsible for several crimes, authorities said.

A man who lives in the 1900 block of West Anita noticed two strangers walk into the garage of his neighbors at about 9 a.m. Monday, Lt. Doug Nolte said. That’s southeast of Pawnee and Meridian in southwest Wichita.

The two men entered through an open garage door, Nolte said, and the neighbor then saw them leave.

“He called 911 to report what he saw,” Nolte said, and officers responding to the area saw two men matching the description walking along a sidewalk.

The officers stopped them and discovered they had property that had been taken from the garage on Anita.

“During the course of the investigation, there was evidence recovered to suggest these two were involved in other burglaries,” Nolte said.

It’s not yet clear how many other cases might be tied to the two suspects, he said. The two men, ages 33 and 18, were booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.

The couple that lives at the house on Anita, an 80-year-old man and an 84-year-old woman, were home at the time of the incident and were not injured, Nolte said.
