Armed intruders kicked in a back door and held a young man and his younger sister at gunpoint while ransacking their house northeast of downtown Wichita on Monday night, police said.

The incident was reported at 11:15 p.m. in the 800 block of North Poplar, Lt. Doug Nolte said. That’s just west of Hillside and north of Central.

An 18-year-old man reported three men kicked in a back door of the house, Nolte said. One of the men pointed a gun at the 18-year-old and his 11-year-old sister and ordered them to the floor.

Two other men went through the house looking for valuables. They left with small electronic items and other personal property.

All three intruders were wearing black clothing, including black gloves and black ski masks, the adult resident told police.

The man and his sister were not hurt in the incident, Nolte said.
