It’ll be sunny today in the Wichita area, but it’ll be windy as well – so windy, in fact, that the National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory effective from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for eight counties in the region: Sedgwick, Reno, Harvey, Kingman, Saline, Rice, McPherson and Reno.

Northwest winds will blow steadily from 30 to 35 miles an hour during that period, with gusts reaching 45 miles an hour at times, according to the weather service.

In addition to the wind advisory, a fire weather watch will be in effect from noon until 6 p.m. in 13 Kansas counties: Sedgwick, Harvey, Kingman, Reno, Sumner, Harper, Russell, Lincoln, Barton, Ellsworth, Saline, Rice and McPherson.

Highs should reach the low 50s in the Wichita area, forecasters say, then fall into the low 20s tonight. Friday will be cooler, with highs only reaching the mid-40s. But winds will be lower, too, with north-northwest winds occasionally reaching the mid-teens. Gusts may touch 20 miles an hour.

The weekend should be rather pleasant, forecasters say, with highs in the 50s and 60s under sunny skies.
