A 29-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment after she jumped from a balcony to escape a man who entered her south Wichita residence and attacked her late Monday afternoon, police said.

The incident was reported shortly after 5:30 p.m. in the 4400 block of South Dodge, Lt. Doug Nolte said. That’s northwest of Seneca and 47th Street South.

The woman told police a stranger came into her house through an unlocked front door and struck her several times before taking her cellphone and a small amount of cash, Nolte said. She was able to get away and jumped off a balcony to get away.

Her injuries turned out to be minor, Nolte said. The suspect is a black male in his late 20s, the woman told police. He has a medium build and light-colored eyes.

He has a goatee, mustache and short, wavy hair, she said. He was wearing a tan pea coat, a white T-shirt, blue jeans and blue denim Ralph Lauren shoes.
