Police are investigating a shooting in west Wichita late Monday night, authorities said.

A 20-year-old man told police he went to buy marijuana from a person he only knew as “D” at a residence in the 6800 block of West Par Lane on Monday night, Nolte said. That’s southeast of Central and Ridge Road.

When the victim arrived at that location, Nolte said, he was confronted by a group of five men, including “D.” They took his wallet, which included $30 and some gift cards, Nolte said.

A second suspect then shot the victim in the back. By the time police arrived, all five people had left.

The shooting victim was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis for treatment of his wound, which is not life-threatening, Nolte said.

Police are still looking for the suspects.

“We’re still trying to piece things together,” Nolte said.
