Wichita police said Monday they are investigating the circumstances surrounding two bodies found in a house Friday night in the 100 block of South Nevada.

A neighbor called police shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, saying she hadn’t seen her neighbors for several days and that newspapers were stacking up, according to Lt. Todd Ojile, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

When officers entered the home, they found the body of a 69-year-old man who had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Ojile said Monday. After further investigation of the house, officers found the body of an 88-year-old woman, believed to be the man’s mother.

Ojile said the woman’s body was found wrapped in tarps in another bedroom. She had been dead for several months.

Police have not released the names of the two people.
