A 70-year-old man was playing a game of “quick draw” when he accidentally shot a 10-year-old boy in the face Saturday in southeast Wichita, police said.

The shooting occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday in the 5800 block of East Kinkaid, Lt. Doug Nolte said Monday. That’s near Woodlawn and Pawnee.

The man, identified in arrest and jail records as Robert M. Dugan, accidentally fired a .22 revolver he was handling, Nolte said. The shot grazed the right side of the boy’s face.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and released. The victim was over at the house of a 14-year-old friend, Nolte said.

“The suspect is a friend of the 14-year-old’s mother,” he said.

Dugan was arrested on suspicion of endangering a child and aggravated battery. He is being held at the Sedgwick County Jail.
