Wichita police arrested a 70-year-old man shortly after midnight Saturday on suspicion of child endangerment.

Police were called to the 5800 block of East Kinkaid, near Woodlawn and Pawnee, on a report that a 10-year-old child had been shot in the face, according to Sgt. John Hoofer, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

The gunshot appeared to be accidental, Hoofer said. The child was taken to an area hospital, treated and released.

“Anytime you have a loaded weapon and are displaying it to children, you are endangering them and anybody else,” Hoofer said. He said people should use “extreme care with loaded guns and that they do not belong to children.”
