A 25-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot near 21st and Amidon over the noon hour Friday, authorities said.

The man was shot once in the back near Pelican Point Apartments, 2150 N. Meridian, shortly after 12:30 p.m., a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. That’s just southwest of 21st and Amidon.

Officers responding to the call found the victim in a grassy area on the southwest side of the complex, Lt. Brian White said. The victim was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, where he was undergoing surgery Friday afternoon.

The victim does not speak English, White said. Police are looking for a man and woman who left the area in a white quad cab truck with the driver’s side window broken.

Anyone who sees the vehicle should call 911, White said.

Police think a handgun was used in the shooting, he said, but a weapon has not been recovered.

The shooting appears to be “an isolated incident,” he said.
