Rogers State hands Newman another loss

Rogers State beat Newman 77-64 on Thursday night at Fugate Gymnasium.

Rogers State built an 11-point lead midway through the first half, but the Jets used a 16-6 run to get within one point late in the half. Jeremy Espinoza had six points during the run.

Newman never regained the lead but trailed just 50-49 with 10 minutes left in the game. Rogers State outscored Newman 14-3 during the next four minutes to gain control of the game.

Landers Riddle scored 12 points for Newman (4-9, 1-4 Heartland) and Espinoza finished with 11. Damien Hook scored 17 for Rogers State (10-4, 5-1).

Newman women 64, Rogers State 62 — Alexandra Ciabatonni’s basket with 21 second left gave Newman the lead, and she blocked a shot with one second left to preserve the win for the Jets.

Ciabattoni’s basket put Newman ahead 63-52. Chynna Ramelb added a free throw with five seconds left.

Ciabatonni finished with 16 points and Shekeira Copeland added 12 for Newman (8-7, 5-4). DaNara Day scored 15 for Rogers State (4-11, 1-8).
