A Norwich resident has won $1 million from the annual Holiday Millionaire Raffle, Kansas Lottery officials said Thursday.

Nancy Hubble, 57, claimed the ticket with the winning number of 120298 on Wednesday at the lottery’s headquarters in Topeka.

She had purchased three tickets at different locations, according to the lottery officials. The winning ticket was purchased at Casey’s General Store at 442 East D Ave. in Kingman, which will receive a $1,000 bonus.

All of the 175,000 allotted raffle tickets were sold by Dec. 30, and the drawing was held the next day. Hubble told lottery officials she knew New Year’s Eve that she had the winning ticket but wanted to wait until a friend returned from out of town, so he could go with her to claim the $1 million.

Hubble said she checked her ticket numbers on the lottery’s website about midnight Dec. 31, which was almost the exact time her 19-year-old daughter was killed in a car accident on New Year’s Eve 12 years ago.

“This is really a blessing to us,” Hubble told lottery officials.

Hubble, who owns a business in Norwich, said she hadn’t decided what to do with the money.

“I think we’re going to invest in some things,” she told lottery officials. “And because we love to hunt and fish, we may also take a fishing trip to Florida.”
