A Wichita man pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder for his role in the April 18 shooting death that occurred during a drug robbery. John E. Carter, 18, will be sentenced Feb 21.

Carter was one of six people charged in the death of Ronald Betts, 33, who was hit several times by gunfire during a robbery at 446 N. Emporia. Wichita police said Carter and two other men tried to rob Betts after arranging to buy a quarter-pound of marijuana from him for $1,100.
