A Douglas County crash left a Topeka man dead Wednesday morning, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The agency said 44-year-old Thomas J. Alber was eastbound in the 800 block of North 1800 Road when his vehicle went left of center about 6:50 a.m. and struck a GMC Acadia that was in a turning lane for westbound traffic.

Alber’s vehicle, a four-door Toyota, traveled into a ditch, the highway patrol said. The SUV stopped on a shoulder.

Alber died, the highway patrol said. The 44-year-old Lecompton woman driving the SUV was not hurt.
