Catholic Care Center retirement community is holding a grand opening for its new long-term care plaza from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at 6700 E. 45th St. North.

The $1.6 million plaza includes community meeting spaces, a fireside room, an expanded gift shop and a bistro to serve the retirement community’s roughly 300 residents, according to Jennifer Sanders, marketing director for the Catholic Care Center.

Speakers at the grand opening include Markus Meyer, executive director of the Catholic Care Center, and Karen Sturchio, administrator for long-term care. There will also be music and refreshments.

Catholic Care Center opened in 1990, added assisted living and memory care in 2002, and added independent living in 2006, Sanders said.

Construction for the project began last summer. Simpson Construction was the contractor and GLMV was architect.
