A 19-year-old man was wounded in the arm in a drug deal gone bad in the 1000 block of North Brookfield on Sunday afternoon, police said Monday.

Police Lt. Doug Nolte gave this account: About 4:45 p.m. Sunday, three men, ages 19, 18 and 17, arranged to meet someone to buy marijuana. When the three got to the location, in the 1000 block of North Brookfield, near 13th and Woodlawn, they took the drug with no intention of paying for it. The 18-year-old man providing the drug pulled out a handgun and fired one shot as the three tried to leave in a vehicle. The bullet went through the driver’s side window, hitting the 19-year-old driver in his left arm. The round then passed through the jacket of a passenger but didn’t injure him.

The suspect fled on foot, and the wounded man was taken by ambulance, in critical condition, to a hospital.

The suspect has been identified, and police are looking for him, Nolte said.
