A former Boeing executive has given $1 million to Wichita State University to recognize exceptional research projects and spur private investors to back them, WSU officials said in a prepared statement Thursday.
John See, who WSU said was director of flight test and prototype development at Boeing until his retirement in 1985, is establishing the John A. See Research Award, a prize for WSU faculty and students doing “significant work,” the WSU Foundation said. Award amounts and the timing of their giving could vary widely, the Foundation said in the statement.
See is not a WSU alum but a longtime benefactor. He created the John A. See Engineering Scholarship in 2011, providing nine scholarships a year to juniors and seniors, the Foundation said. He created the John A. See Endowed Health and Emergency Fund in 2007, which helps students with emergency medical expenses not covered by insurance, the Foundation said.
