The body of a Fort Riley soldier who drowned Christmas Eve while duck hunting was recovered Wednesday, Army officials said Thursday.

Spc. Thomas L. Hedrick III, 31, of Thebes, Ill., fell through the ice Dec. 24 on Milford Reservoir near Junction City. Geary County authorities suspended their search and recovery conditions that day when weather and icy lake conditions worsened, Fort Riley officials said.

The search resumed Dec. 28 but was stopped the next day when weather again worsened. The search started again Monday, officials added.

Hedrick was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division’s 1st Combat Aviation Brigade.
