What would the New Year in Wichita be without tracking when the city’s first baby of 2014 was born?

So with that in mind, let’s welcome a 5-pound, 11-ounce girl who was born at 12:41 a.m. Wednesday at Via Christi Hospital St. Joseph. She was delivered by cesarean section, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Wesley Medical Center, the city’s only other hospital that delivers babies, didn’t see its first newborn of 2014 until 4:07 a.m., a spokeswoman said.

All babies delivered in the Via Christi Health system are born at St. Joseph.
