Don’t call 911 tonight with your complaints about fireworks.

Sedgwick County Emergency Communications has set up a nonemergency phone number for New Year’s Eve, starting at 6 p.m. through 3 a.m. Wednesday. The number is 316-290-1011.

The number is a temporary alternative to 911. It is meant to receive calls about nuisances that don’t pose a threat to life or property, according to a county news release.

The nonemergency number has been activated in previous years on New Year’s Eve and Fourth of July to prevent a heavy influx complaints about fireworks to 911 that can block emergency calls.

If someone calls 911 on New Year’s Eve with a nonemergency concern, the person will be transferred to the nonemergency line, Emergency Communications Interim Director Kim Pennington said.
