No ill effects for Ellis

Sophomore forward Perry Ellis finished with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds during KU’s victory over Toledo, showing no ill effects from the blow he suffered against Georgetown on Dec. 21.

Ellis, who was diagnosed with a bruised nerve in his neck, was able to return home to Wichita for a few days and rest up while spending Christmas with his family.

“I got to be at home and really just got to recover a little bit,” said Ellis, who shot nine of 15 from the floor. “I felt good out there. So I’m just glad that I could play tonight.”

It was just the second career double-double for Ellis and his first of the season.

Tyler Self to redshirt

Kansas coach Bill Self announced on Saturday during the Jayhawks’ annual holiday clinic that his son, Tyler, a sophomore walk-on, would likely redshirt this season after an ongoing foot injury sidelined him for most of November and December.
