NC State women knock of Kansas State

Markeisha Gatling had 21 points and 12 rebounds, leading North Carolina State’s women to a 77-60 win over Kansas State in the first round of the Surf N’Slam Classic in San Diego.

Leticia Romero had 15 points and seven assists for Kansas State (5-5), and Ashlynn Knoll added 14 points off the bench. North Carolina State (12-1) outrebounded K-State 48-29.

NC State took a 14-5 lead in the opening minutes. The Wildcats trimmed the lead to 14-11, and twice cut the margin to one point before trailing 36-31 at halftime.

The Wolfpack began the second half with a 16-4 run to break open the game, and led by as many as 22 points in the second half.

Kansas State will play California-Riverside on Sunday in the final day of the event.
