Saint Francis Community Services is offering two free, 10-week courses in January for people interested in foster parenting.
The first round of classes starts at 6 p.m. Jan. 7 at 4155 E. Harry. A second begins Jan. 13.
The program, called Partnering for Safety and Permanence – Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting, is designed to help prospective parents gain information, skills and resources needed before delving into foster care. The state of Kansas requires all potential foster parents to complete the training.
At least 250 local children currently reside with foster families outside Sedgwick County, according to Saint Francis Community Services. More than 140 new foster households are needed to place them nearer to home.
To register for the classes, call 316-831-0330, ext. 231. To learn more, go to www.st-francis.org.
