Fingertip severed as man tries to retrieve stolen wallet

Wichita police said a 60-year-old man lost the tip of his left index finger early Friday when he reached into a car window in an attempt to retrieve a stolen wallet.

Police said the wallet was taken from the victim’s unlocked car in the 800 block of South Broadway at about 12:30 a.m. When the man reached into a car driven by the thief, police said, the theft rolled up the window and drove off.

The victim was treated at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis.
