There were no injuries in a Monday night fire at Cargill’s Dodge City beef packing plant, but the fire forced the evacuation of 1,000 employees and shut down operations.

The fire damaged the roof in one part of the plant, said company spokesman Mike Martin. The cause remains under investigation.

The company expects the plant to be back in operation next week if it can get contractors in over the holidays, he said.

Cargill will be able to move production to its other beef plants temporarily, he said.
