Wichita should crawl above the freezing mark today, forecasters say, but wind chills will still make residents shudder while they’re outdoors.

Those wind chills will approach negative double digits at times, thanks to southerly winds that will gust to nearly 30 miles an hour at times. Skies will be mostly sunny, forecasters say, before more clouds move in late in the day.

Lows on Christmas Eve will drop to the low 20s as skies again gradually clear. Winds will shift from the south to the north overnight.

Christmas Day should be sunny, slightly warmer and more pleasant in the Wichita area, forecasters say. Highs are expected to climb into the upper 30s with west winds staying in the single digits.
