A woman who attempted to commit suicide by setting herself on fire in a Lowe’s parking lot late Sunday afternoon remains in critical condition Monday, police said.

The 41-year-old woman doused herself with lighter fluid and then used a cigarette lighter to ignite it, Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte said. A passerby spotted her in the parking lot at 11959 E. Kellogg and pushed her into a snowbank, extinguishing the flames.

She was taken to the burn unit at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis for treatment. Nolte said authorities do not know why the woman wanted to commit suicide.
