Kansas State women lose to Hampton

Kansas State’s women rallied to force overtime and double overtime before losing to Hampton 86-75 on Saturday in Hampton, Va.

K-State trailed 64-63 with 18.6 seconds left in the second half. Ashia Woods stole an inbounds pass and put in a layup to give the Wildcats a one-point lead with 17.3 seconds left. Hampton missed a shot but grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 4-7 seconds left, then made one of two free throws to send the game to overtime.

K-State trailed by four late in the first overtime. Jessica Sheble made a basket and a free throw with 9.2 seconds left, and after Hampton missed two free throws Katya Leick grabbed a rebound and was fouled. She made one of two, allowing the game to go to a second OT.

Leick led K-State with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Woods had 15 points and Leticia Romero scored 14, but they were two of three Wildcats who fouled out. K-State was hurt by 24 turnovers and was outrebounded 59-53.
