KC Fed sees “temporary” drop in December manufacturing

The Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank reported Friday in its December survey that manufacturing in the district fell slightly, but expectations among manufacturers about the future rose modestly.

“The drop in regional factory activity appears like it will be temporary, and was at least partly driven by bad weather,” bank economist Chad Wilkerson said in a statement. “Firms remain generally optimistic about the first half of 2014, despite continued uncertainty about fiscal policy and regulations.”

The Kansas City district covers Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, the western third of Missouri and the northern half of New Mexico.
